Man in court in Tullamore fined for being drunk on roadside at 8.45am
A man who is currently serving a prison sentence appeared at Tullamore District Court by video link and admitted public drunkenness last year.
The court was told by John Collins (31), Castlemeadows, Trim, Co Meath, that he is serving an eight-month sentence for a different matter and will be out of prison in May.
Mr Collins entered a guilty plea to intoxication in a public place at New Forest, Tyrrellspass on June 20, 2024.
The prosecuting guard, Garda Alan Hogan, said the accused had been intoxicated on the side of the road at 8.45am on that date and was a danger to himself and others.
Garda Hogan said the man was brought to Athlone Garda Station and a fixed charge penalty notice was issued but it was not paid.
The garda added that Mr Collins had a total of 104 previous convictions, including a number for similar public order offences.
Judge Andrew Cody imposed a fine of €200.
