Offaly continue winning start with impressive performance on long trip to Derry

A goal inside 90 seconds in their clash with Derry in Owenbeg from Róisín Kinsella set Offaly on their way to an impressive win over Derry on Saturday.

Camogie League Division 2a
Derry 0-8 Offaly 2-10

It was the perfect start for the visitors after their long trip north and if got even better when Clodagh Leahy added a point before Orlaith Hill opened Derry’s account from a free.

The score-line sat at 1-2 to 0-2 for a good part of the opening half, but then Offaly finished strongly with an unanswered 1-3, the goal coming right on the half-time whistle from Grace Teehan.

That left it 2-5 to 0-2 at the break.

The home team got their act together in the early stages of the second half with four points in the opening ten minutes, one each from Clíodhna Ní Mhianáin and Jackie Donnelly and two from Lauren McKenna.

However Offaly were able to absorb the pressure and tag on enough scores through Clodagh Leahy to stay in control of the game.

The result has made it two wins from two games for Offaly in Division 2a and they sit atop the table as the only team to win their first two games.

Next up for Offaly this Saturday is a home game with Meath who are currently second in the table with a home game with Carlow to come on March 22 before they finish their campaign away to Armagh on Saturday, March 29.

Scorers:

Derry: L McKenna 0-3, 1 free, O Hull 0-2 frees, C Ní Mhianáin, J Donnelly and É McElhinney 0-1 each
Offaly: G Teehan 1-2, R Kinsella 1-1, C Leahy 0-4, 3 frees, F Mulrooney, F Dooley and M Teehan 0-1 each.
