'He was a legend' - Tributes paid following unexpected death of Offaly man

Tributes have been paid following the sad and unexpected death of Tony Leavey, late of Bettystown, Co. Meath and formerly of Edenderry, Co Offaly.

Tony passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Friday, February 21, 2025 in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.

Beloved husband of Kate and adored Dad to Janet, Tony will be very sadly missed by his wife, daughter, grandchildren Kayleigh, David and Callum, Janet’s partner Pat, daughters Carole and Susan, son Robert, granddaughter Leila, sister Theresa, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Heartfelt condolences have been left on RIP.ie, from those who knew and fondly remembered Tony, with one mourner writing,

"Deepest sympathy to Tony's family. I worked alongside tony many years ago always found him a gentleman and very helpful on the tour circuit may he rest in peace."

Another wrote,

"I was very sad to hear of the Tony's passing , Many a laugh I had with him over a 25 year period of Tony buying cars from me, He was a gentle man & great character. My condolences to Katie, Janet & extended family."

While another wrote,

"My deep condolence to Kate, Janet and family, Tony was a legend, may his legacy be lived through his grand children, Rest in Peace Tony."

Funeral Arrangements

Reposing at Townley’s Funeral Home (A92 XN75) on Friday evening (February 28) from 5pm until 7pm. A Prayer Service for Tony will take place on Saturday morning in the Funeral Home at 11am.

Burial afterwards at approximately 1.30pm in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Edenderry, Co. Offaly.
