A warning has been issued over the condition of the Edenderry to Rathangan road after five motorists reported damage to their cars in a matter of days.

Edenderry councillor Fergus McDonnell said: "As I drive this road four times daily and being aware of the rapid increase of potholes all the way to Cush Bridge and the dangers posed to all motorists, I notified Offaly County Council last week of the dangerous condition.

"Some potholes were filled as far as the Derries, so again last Tuesday I reported the worsening condition and urgency. I did expect the remaining stretch to be done. I know of five motorists with damaged rims and tyres and I'd be confident there are more." He vowed to contact council management again on Friday.

The warning comes in the same week the 2 Johnnies named the same Offaly road as one of the worst in the country, describing it as "Disneyland spec" because of how "up and down" it is.

The comedy duo have travelled the country playing gigs for the last decade and two Offaly roads stand out among the worst, the pair announced on their popular podcast.

When mentioning the Rathangan to Edenderry road among the worst they've seen, Johnny B said: "That's good bog road now that's up and down; that's Disneyland spec - like Space Mountain."

Johnny B also reckons the drive from Portarlington to Rhode in Co Offaly is one of the worst while you wouldn't have to drive far into Kildare from Edenderry to find the worst they've ever seen.

"We did a gig in Carbury one time. There's no road in Tipperary that bad. You're as well off getting a helicopter into town," Johnny B said.

Johnny Smacks added: "In the early days, we drove to all those kind of areas doing gigs and stuff like that, but I always remember Carbury in Kildare as having the worst roads of all-time."
