A series Red Weather Warnings have been issued for Storm Eowyn by Met Eireann
Met Eireann issued a series of Red Weather Warnings for all of Ireland that came into effect at various times through Friday morning. Red Weather Warnings are extremely dangerous and destructive and pose a danger to life.
Record wind speeds have been recorded from Storm Eoghan and already over 500,000 homes in Ireland are without power.
According to Met Eireann, at 4am, at Mace Head (County Galway) we had a mean speed of 135kph which breaks the previous record of 131kph and at 5am, at Mace Head as well, there was a gust of 183kph which breaks the previous record of 182kph.
Met Eireann warns that impacts of Storm Eowyn are Danger to life; Extremely dangerous travelling conditions; Unsafe working conditions; Disruption and cancellations to transport; Many fallen trees; Significant and widespread power outages; Impacts to communications networks; Cancellation of event; Structural damage; Wave overtopping; Coastal flooding in low-lying and exposed areas
There are five Red Weather Warnings in place from Met Eireann. Even once the Red Warnings end, there is also a Status Orange Wind Warning for all of Ireland until 4pm today.
The Status Red Weather Warnings are as follows.
A Status Red Wind warning for Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Cork, Kerry, Limerick and Waterford is in place until 10am on Friday.
A Status Red Wind Warning for Clare and Galway is in place until 11am on Friday
A Status Red Wind warning for Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo is in place until Friday at 12 noon
A Status Red Wind warning for Cavan, Monaghan, Dublin, Kildare, Laois, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wicklow, Roscommon and Tipperary is in place until 11am on Friday.
A Status Red Wind Warning for Donegal is in place until 2pm on Friday.
