Suspended prison sentence for man after incident outside nightclub in Offaly

A ONE-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, was imposed on a man for a breach of the peace in Birr.

Tullamore District Court was told there was a “very hostile scene” involving five males from two different families at 2.45am on June 25 last in Emmet Square, Birr.

Keith McDonagh (31), Drumbane, Birr, pleaded guilty to committing public order offences when the prosecution from Sergeant Laura Hennessy came before Judge Andrew Cody.

Paul Noctor, BL, for Mr McDonagh, said the incident occurred outside a nightclub after an argument inside and the accused man had gone out to his wife who was waiting in a car. A father of five, he was in receipt of a disability payment and had a previous public order conviction dating from 2021.

The court was told further court appearances are expected.
