Motorist who overtook on bend in Offaly and caused accident appears in court

Last week's Tullamore District Court sitting heard a case where a defendant caused a road traffic accident when he overtook on a bend.

Maciej Klosiewicz, 18 St Patrick's Avenue, Rhode was charged with dangerous driving at Newtown, Rhode on November 29, 2023.

Sergeant Brendan Kearns told the court that the Gardaí attended the scene of a road traffic collision. “At 10 in the evening Mr Klosiewicz overtook when it wasn't safe to do so, on a bend.” Klosiewicz had three previous convictions.

Defending barrister David Nugent said his client will be deeply impacted by the loss of his licence.

“He uses his car to frequently take his wife to hospital and his son to school.”

Judge Andrew Cody convicted and fined €500, disqualifying from driving for three years.
