Offaly woman charged with being verbally threatening towards a Garda

An Offaly woman was charged with being verbally threatening towards a Garda, during a recent sitting of Tullamore District Court. Before the court was Niamh Langtry, 10 New Houses, Birr Road, Banagher.

Ms Langtry, 24, committed the offence at Curraghavarna, Banagher on October 19, 2024.

Sergeant Brendan Kearns told the court that the defendant was intoxicated on the date in question and “became very aggressive towards the Garda, making a number of derogatory comments.”

Judge Cody said he had read the comments. “Reading them makes me wonder if she has an attitude problem?” he said to the defending solicitor Patrick Martin.

Mr Martin said his client was in “an abusive relationship at the time. She is now receiving counselling. She is doing part-time work with the HSE.”

The Judge remanded on continuing bail to April 9 next and asked for a Probation and Welfare Report on that date.
