A number of bank cards and a quantity of cash were stolen from staff in a Birr shop during the Christmas period.

A spokesperson for Birr Gardaí told The Midland Tribune that the crime happened in a retail premises on O'Connell Street during lunchtime when the shop was open.

Gardai say a male entered the premises, went into a staff room and stole a number of items belonging to the members of staff including bank cards and cash.

Gardaí have harvested CCTV footage and say they are following 'a definite line of inquiry'.
