Angus Cloud has died at the age of 25

THE Irish-American actor Angus Cloud who spent some time in Offaly last year has died at the age of 25.

The Euphoria star, whose full name was Conor Angus Cloud Hickey, was found deceased at his family home in Oakland, California on Monday.

His father Conor Hickey, who played rugby with Co Meath club Ashbourne in the early 1980s before moving to California, passed away in Ireland in May.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Ashbourne Rugby Club said: “A few weeks ago we wrote about the loss of a former player who died Oakland in California. He was Conor Hickey and he was a former captain of the Ashbourne Rugby Club. He was a very popular figure in both the club and the area, but what we did not mention is that he was the father of Angus Cloud, the actor. He full name was Conor Angus Cloud Hickey. The sad news came through this morning that Angus has also passed away and the club would like to express its sincere condolences to the Hickey family - his mother and sisters as well as his many aunts and uncles and extended family. May they both rest together in peace.”

A tribute to Angus Cloud posted on the HBO and Euphoria Instagram accounts said: “We are incredibly saddened to learn of the passing of Angus Cloud. He was immensely talented and a beloved part of the HBO and Euphoria family. We extend our deepest condolences to his friends and family during this difficult time.”

On August 20 last year Cloud shared a snap of himself on his Instagram story (see below) pictured in a forest trail at Cushina, east Offaly.

During the trip he also visited Banagher in the west of the county where he was recorded in advance for the JJ Houghs pub annual Christmas video opening a box of USA biscuits.

In the brief cameo (see below a screengrab from the video from JJ Houghs Facebook page) he can be seen wearing a JJ Houghs tee-shirt and is heard saying: “USA biscuits? I don't even got the munchies yet man.”

The Irish Mirror reported on Tuesday that Gerald Hough was a cousin of Cloud and quoted the Banagher man as saying: “Angus carried that Irishness with him. We are not as braggadocious. You really knew he was Irish, with his red hair. He was very understated. He visited Ireland with his father and two sisters, in the summer last year. They were on the Shannon and came to Banagher, to the pub for a night out.”

The actor had previously spoken about his Irish connections, telling the Wall Street Journal in 2019 that he considered moving to Ireland before taking up the role in Euphoria.

“I was gonna move to Ireland for a while. All my family lives out there,” he said.

The last time he travelled to Ireland was for his father's funeral recently.
