THE brother of two Offaly senior hurling stars achieved one his own big goals when he rode his first winner at a recent point to point meeting.
Jockey James Sampson is a younger brother of Jason and Killian Samspon, who have been in great form for Offaly this year as they surpassed expectations by winning promotion from Division 1B of the National Hurling League – Offaly play Waterford in Division 1B final in Cork on Sunday and then have a short wait before they head into a tough Leinster Senior Hurling Championship campaign after the middle of April.
The Shinrone jockey rode Macgiloney to victory in an open race at the point to point meeting nin Oldcastle in Meath on March 30. Sampson had partnered a number of horses in recent point to point meetings in Durrow and Nenagh and was delighted to get the 4-1 shot, Macgiloney across the line in first place in Oldcastle.
