THE strong response from Offaly’s farming community, with an impressive 2,763 applications submitted from the county for the Basic Income Support for Sustainability (BISS) and other vital area-based schemes before the 15 May deadline, has been welcomed by Deputy Tony McCormack.

Deputy McCormack praised the dedication of local farmers, stating: "Our farmers are the backbone of rural Offaly and I’m delighted—but not surprised—to see such a strong level of engagement with these essential schemes. These supports make a real difference to farm families and rural communities, and I want to ensure every eligible farmer in Offaly can maximise their entitlements."

The area-based application process includes a wide range of supports such as the Eco Scheme, Complementary Redistribution Income Support for Sustainability (CRISS), and targeted measures for young farmers and environmentally sustainable practices. Nationally, over 123,000 farmers submitted applications, showing a clear commitment to sustainable farming practices and rural resilience.

Farmers who applied now have until 31 May to make amendments to their applications without penalty, and Deputy McCormack is encouraging anyone who needs to make changes to do so in time.

He concluded by reaffirming his ongoing support: "I will continue to work hard in the Dáil to ensure Offaly farmers are supported, listened to, and fairly treated. These schemes are more than payments—they’re investments in the future of our farms and our rural way of life."
