Dancing at the Crossroads Festival in Offaly area tonight

Clara Heritage Society receives €5,000 in funding for landmark event

CROSSROADS

Clara Heritage Society will host its Dancing at the Crossroads festival this evening, Thursday 24 July, from 7pm to 9pm at Lismoyny Crossroads.

The event is free to attend and promises an evening of traditional music, céilí and set dancing, with live music from Rahan Comhaltas and light refreshments available.

The event is being supported by a €5,000 grant awarded under the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport’s Small Scale Local Festivals and Summer Schools Scheme for 2025. The funding recognises the Society’s efforts to celebrate local heritage while fostering inclusivity through cross-community participation.

Deputy Tony McCormack welcomed the announcement and commended the Clara Heritage committee and volunteers for their commitment.

“This is a great example of how small-scale funding can make a real impact. Clara Heritage continues to lead the way in promoting cultural tradition while welcoming new voices.”

Cllr Frank Moran, who has long supported the group’s work, also praised the initiative, saying, “Events like this bring communities together and keep important traditions alive. It’s a credit to everyone involved.”

The event site is located just off the Clara–Kilbeggan road at Lismoyny Crossroads (Eircode R35 D627). Off-road parking will be available, and attendees are asked to follow stewards’ instructions. As the site borders the River Brosna and is adjacent to a working farm, children must be supervised at all times.

Clara Heritage Society continues to play a central role in preserving local history and providing cultural experiences that are open, accessible, and relevant to all members of the community.
