Who is Tadhg Casey? New building expert joins RTE's Cheap Irish Homes

Tadhg Casey and Maggie Molloy

Maggie Molloy, RTE's Cheap Irish Homes presenter, announces a new building expert from Kerry to the team.

In the hit show, Maggie and her co-presenter, building engineer Kieran McCarthy, travel all over Ireland showing the best properties for buyers on a budget.

For the next series, Maggie will be joined by Kerry-based architect Tadhg Casey, who will help Maggie guide budget-conscious house hunters as they search for a bargain home.

Tadhg was raised on a dairy farm in North Kerry and credits his rural upbringing—working on building sites, farming, and steel fabrication—with shaping his grounded, hands-on approach to architecture.

Filming on the new series is already underway, and Tadhg says he’s excited about the opportunity to help people find and renovate affordable properties.

“My work focuses on refurbishments of traditional homes as well as new house designs rooted in Irish heritage. I’m passionate about preserving and revitalising Ireland’s architectural traditions and using local materials and sustainable methods,” Tadhg said.

“He’s really passionate about breathing life back into old houses,” Maggie said.

“It’s great that Tadhg can share his knowledge with our house hunters, who are often overwhelmed by the thought of buying a property that may need a lot of work,” Maggie added.

Tadhg completed a B.Sc. in Architectural Technology from Cork Institute of Technology in 2007 before going on to study architecture at Waterford Institute of Technology, graduating with B. Architecture in 2012, according to tcarchitects.ie.

Tadhg worked in Cork City Council Architects Department on a range of residential and urban design projects before moving to Dublin to work for residential and master planning specialists Conroy Crowe Kelly (CCK).

In CCK Tadhg led the delivery of the high-end, 161-unit residential development of Robswall Phase 2 in Malahide, Co. Dublin as well as being an integral part of the team that achieved planning for a 16 storey residential tower at Clongriffin.

Tadhg has particular expertise in the design and delivery of multi unit residential schemes for both the private and social sectors.

Tadhg also holds a Diploma in Construction Leadership from The Tony Ryan Academy in Dublin City University, according to the website.

Tadhg is a vocal advocate for the regeneration of Ireland’s smaller towns and villages. He believes that the lessons of traditional Irish architecture can help create vibrant, sustainable communities that honour their history while embracing modern needs.

Cheap Irish Homes is currently looking for people to take part in the new series, so if you would like Maggie and Tadhg’s help, get in touch with the production team at cheapirishhomes@av3.ie.
