Following the devastating fire that burned down Bernie's Supervalu in Roscrea on November 11, a Laois village organised a concert fundraiser to support the iconic Roscrea business.
Donaghmore Workhouse hosted a 'Super-Support' concert in aid of the business, to raise funds towards the supermarket's restoration.
The fundraiser was organised by Rathdowney actor and playwright, Micheal Creagh, who was moved by the story of the fire which engulfed the Roscrea business.
"I think we all got a shock when we saw the devastating fire at SuperValu in Roscrea," Mr Creagh said.
"Of course we're all relieved that there were no injuries or worse. But now a lot of good people have to pick up the pieces of their lives and livelihoods.
“The people of Roscrea have given us musicians here in Rathdowney many years of love and support by coming out to hear us sing and play," he said.
"A bunch of us over here across the border in lovely Laois put our 'auld heads together and agreed that we want to give back some of that love and support," Mr Creagh explained. On Saturday November 29, they gathered in Donaghmore Workhouse Dining Hall to put on a fundraising concert aimed at restoring the supermarket at the heart of the community.
The concert followed on the turning on of Rathdowney's Christmas Lights at the brewery bridge in the bordering town. There was no specific admission charge and people were encourged to donate one euro, or whatever they can afford at this critical time of year.
Mr Creagh highlighted that 100% of funds raised go directly towards the Roscrea business.

All the musicians gaave their services for free, and a local business opened as a location for the 'Super-Support' night.
Bernie's are known as an institution in the heritage town, who are well known for generously supporting local charities and organisations.
After the devastating blaze the management of the business on Roscrea's Main Street said they are grateful nobody was hurt and they intend to return and rebuild the business “better than ever” on social media.
