Town park - 'the jewel in our town'
"UNBELIEVABLE work is being done by Tidy Towns committee in the Tullamore Municipal District area," observed Cllr Shane Murray at last week's monthly meeting of the body.
Cllr Murray, who is chairman of Tullamore Tidy Towns, also praised the "fantastic" work of committees in Ballycumber, Killeigh and Mucklagh.
Noting the awarding of the Green Flag to the town park in Tullamore, the Fianna Fail man said the facility played an important role as a tourist attraction.
Cathaoirleach, Cllr Declan Harvey described the park as "the jewel in our town."

Cllr Aoife Masterson said it was great Tullamore Tidy towns had brought so many people in from other communities to help in their work.
"This gives people such a sense of belonging," noted the Sinn Fein woman who described the town park as a wonderful amenity for families.
Tribute was also paid to county council staff who work in tandem with Tidy Towns committees by Cllr Ollie Bryant.
Cllr Frank Moran said Tidy Towns' adjudicators reports sometimes made comments about issues outside the control of committees.
"In the Ballycumber report there was remarks about cars parking on footpaths which the Tidy Towns committee has nothing to do with," he revealed.
Director of Services, Paul McLoughlin said the sense of community was very much alive in the Tullamore MD area.
