ALERT: More heavy snow falling in parts of Ireland as Met Eireann forecast long cold spell

More heavy snow is falling in parts of Ireland this afternoon as Met Eireann is forecast a cold spell that could last up until Friday. 

Two separate Weather Warnings are in place for Ireland from Met Eireann.

There is a Status Yellow Snow-Ice warning for Ireland which warns that wintry showers will bring further accumulation of snow bringing hazardous travelling conditions, poor visibility and travel disruption. That warning is in place until noon on Tuesday

A Status Yellow Low Temperature/Ice warning for Ireland from Met Eireann warns that there will be very cold nights with widespread frost, ice and lying snow. Temperatures struggling to get above freezing during the day. That warning is in place until midnight on Friday

According to the latest Met Eireann weather forecast for Ireland, Monday afternoon and evening will be very cold with ice and lying snow in many areas. Frost will persist in places and will develop in most areas again after dark. There'll be sunshine and scattered showers of rain, hail, sleet and snow. Highest temperatures of 1 to 5 degrees but staying below freezing over snow-fields. Northwesterly winds will increase moderate to fresh and gusty, strong at times near northwest coasts

Clear spells and scattered sleet and snow showers tonight, the showers most frequent in the west and north. Widespread frost and ice with lowest temperatures of -5 to 0 degrees and moderate west to northwest winds.

According to the latest Met Eireann weather forecast for Ireland, Tuesday will be another very cold day with sunshine and further scattered wintry showers, mainly in the west and north of the country. Frost and ice will persist in some areas all day with highest temperatures of 0 to +5 degrees and moderate northwest winds.

Tuesday night will be bitterly cold with severe frost as minimum temperatures range from -8 to -3 degrees in light westerly or variable winds. Areas of freezing fog will develop in some areas leading to hazardous travelling conditions. Still a few wintry showers along the north coast.

According to the latest Met Eireann weather forecast for Ireland, it will be very cold on Wednesday with areas of ice and freezing fog lingering in some areas throughout the day. Where the fog does clear there will be spells of sunshine. Maximum afternoon temperatures will generally range from -3 to +3 degrees in mostly light westerly winds. Further wintry showers in the north and northwest.

Another bitterly cold night on Wednesday night with widespread frost and ice along with areas of freezing fog developing again. Some sleet and snow showers along northern and northwestern coastal areas. Lowest temperatures of -8 to -2 degrees.

According to the latest Met Eireann weather forecast for Ireland, Thursday will be a mainly dry chilly day with sunshine, however frost and freezing fog may linger in southern parts. Maximum afternoon temperatures of -2 to +5 degrees, with light variable winds.

Rain, sleet and snow spreading northeastwards on Thursday night. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees, in moderate to fresh southeasterly winds.

According to the latest Met Eireann weather forecast for Ireland, it will be less cold on Friday with outbreaks of rain spreading eastwards and becoming lighter through the day. Highest temperatures of 3 to 6 degrees with light southeasterly breezes.
