WATCH: 'Strong representative' needed in Tullamore and Offaly says Fianna Fail candidate

'I've been a councillor since 2009 and I've been involved in many projects. I know what it takes to be a good TD,' says Cllr Tony McCormack

AFTER the general election was called on Friday, Cllr Tony McCormack began his run for the Dail by taking part in a 5km run along the bank of the Grand Canal in his home town of Tullamore.

Speaking immediately after completing the run the Fianna Fail candidate said: “Tullamore and Offaly need a strong representative in Dail Eireann. I believe I can be that strong representative. I've been a councillor since 2009 and I've been involved in many projects. I know what it takes to be a good TD. I want to be that voice for the people in Offaly. We want to have good healthcare and mental health for our young and our old. We also want to have proper education facilities so that nobody is left behind.”

The Tullamore-based businessman added: “We want to have job creation. I've been working with the IDA on many projects over the years but we want another IDA park here in Tullamore, also in Edenderry and Birr, and we want other projects like the one that's so successful, in collaboration with the community and the council, in Ferbane.

“We also need to look after our old people, in the community and that's why I've been bringing up, on numerous occasions, the grants available to those, for retrofitting their houses and building extensions. These are the policies that I will be running on.

“And also, farming. Farming, and incomes for farming families, are very important. Farming is an indigenous industry that needs to be looked after in our country.”
