WATCH: Offaly's Mahon sisters dance for President Higgins

Granddaughters of National Ploughing president star on opening day in Screggan

TWO granddaughters of the president of the National Ploughing Association, Offaly man Michael Mahon, had the honour of dancing for President Michael D Higgins at the Ploughing.

Emer and Chloe Mahon are daughters of Offaly Ploughing stalwart Brian Mahon and their performance with the Offaly Comhaltas group captivated the large crowd gathered in Screggan for the official opening of the event by President Higgins.

The girls took to the dance floor watched by President Higgins and his wife Sabina, Ploughing organisers Anna May and Anna Marie McHugh, Offaly County Council Cathaoirleach John Leahy, and a host of other dignitaries.

Earlier pupils from Daingean National School entertained the crowd as they awaited the arrival of President Higgins, a perennial guest of honour at the National Ploughing since he took up office in the Aras.
