The tractor run raised over €25,000 for Dochas last year
LARGE crowds are assembling in Tullamore's Market Square this morning, Wednesday, as the annual Tullamore Christmas Charity Tractor Run takes place.
The event was officially opened earlier by members of Dochas, the Offaly Cancer Support Group, the charity which benefits from the run.
Speaking at an informal opening ceremony in the Old Harbour Bar. Tractor Run committee PRO, PJ Lynam praised Dochas for the professional service they provide to cancer patients and their families.
Vice-Chairman of Dochas, Dermot Murphy thanked the tractor run organisers for providing huge support to the charity every year.
In early December the committee handed over a cheque for more than €25,000 to Dochas, the proceeds of last year's run.
Participants will depart Market Square at about 12 noon today and this year a new route takes them up High St, right at Kilcruttin onto the Rahan Road, then left onto the Clara Road, left at Coolnahiley Cross, left at Ballykilmurray Cross and back into Tullamore.
An auction, back after an enforced absence due to Covid, will take place in the Old Harbour Bar later that evening.
Supporters can also purchase a tractor run 15th anniversary calendar which retails at €10.
Thanks are extended to the hard working committee, businesses and sponsors, the Gardai, Offaly County Council and all the volunteers who help out on the day.
