Father of six, publican and auctioneer: the late Liam Kenny
THE local community is in shock this week after confirmation that well known former Rahan publican and auctioneer Liam Kenny was killed in Monday's road traffic collision near Mucklagh.
The 70-year-old father of six was the former owner of the Thatch public house, Rahan, and also traded as an auctioneer.
His vehicle was involved in a road accident with a lorry at Bunaterin on the N52 main Tullamore to Birr road shortly after 10am on Monday.
Mr Kenny, who lived at Grand Canal House, Rahan, is survived by his wife Margaret, children Ruth, Edel, Grace, Alana, Catherine and Liam Óg, sons-in-law Adrian, Davy, John, Paul and Aaron, his brothers Carthage and Joe, his sister Annie, and 10 grandchildren, Eve, Oliver, Tiernan, Fiadh, Cara, Ceola, Daisy, Charlie, Bobby and Louis.
He is also mourned by many relatives, friends and neighbours. Funeral arrangements had not been made at time of writing.
Gardai said Mr Kenny was the driver and sole occupant of his vehicle. His body was removed to Tullamore Hospital for a post mortem.
The driver of the other vehicle, a man in his mid-30s, who was also unaccompanied, was taken to Tullamore Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The road was closed for a period on Monday to allow forensic collision investigators examine the scene.
Gardai appealed for any witnesses to the collision to come forward, including any road users who were travelling in the area at the time and may have camera footage (including dash-cam). They are asked to make the footage available to gardai.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Tullamore Garda Station on (057) 9327600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
