A temporary road closure is in operation at Clonminch road in Tullamore from Bachelors walk.

Road resurfacing works commenced today Thursday July 17. Works are expected to continue until tomorrow Friday July 18.

Diversions will be in place and people are warned to expect delays.

At the June meeting of Tullamore Municipal District the Cathaoirleach, Councillor Declan Harvey said that work on the Clonminch Road to the graveyard needs to be done as it is in a bad state of repair. He also noted that two trees at the graveyard need to be trimmed.

Councillor Aoife Masterson agreed that the road towards the cemetery at Clonminch is deteriorating. She asked if it was possible to put in a pedestrian crossing to the graveyard as she said a lot of elderly people are crossing and they are ''absolutely terrified'' to cross as the road is extremely busy.

Responding Senior Executive Engineer Joe Dooley said ''there is a certain amount of flexibility built into our roads programme. It's on our radar. I hope we will be able to tackle it,'' he said.

No sooner said than done the work has started on resurfacing and Cllr Harvey said they are also remarking the road which he has welcomed.
