Students gather to receive their post-graduate scholarships

TWO local students have been awarded scholarships which will support post graduate studies abroad.

Muireann Carton and Aisling Maloney and are among 57 recipients of awards under the George Moore Scholars programme which was launched in 2020 by the Ireland Funds.

Muireann Carton (pictured below), Killeigh, is a past pupil of Sacred Heart School, Tullamore who studied law and political science at Trinity College Dublin.

This year's recipients gathered at LinkedIn's Community Space in Dublin last week for the announcement of the scholarships.

The students will undertake a Master's degree abroad at universities across the United States, Canada, the UK, and Europe.

Aisling Maloney (pictured below), Roscrea, attended Presentation Secondary School in Thurles and studied law and politics in UCD. She also contested the local elections in Roscrea-Templemore last year for the Green Party.

The George Moore Scholars programme aims to invest in the next generation of leaders and innovators, widens access to postgraduate education and extends learning opportunities for students across the island of Ireland.

As well as financial support, it provides mentorship and access to a global network of fellow scholars to empower students to achieve their fullest potential and contribute to the global community.

The Ireland Funds is a global philanthropic network established in 1976 to promote and support peace, culture, education and community development throughout the island of Ireland, and Irish-related causes around the world. It has benefited the work of thousands of different organisations, with both financial and non-financial support.

Today, The Ireland Funds is one of the largest independent grant makers for the non-profit sector in Ireland.
