Local elections candidate in the Tullamore area, Aoife Masterson last weekend spoke to more than 800 party members at the launch of the party’s Local Government and EU election campaigns in The Helix Dublin.
She said: “This election is the first step in getting this failed government out of office.. We know that change is possible, we know that change is essential, and we know that change starts here.”
Ms Masterson was one of three candidates who partook in a panel discussion with Deputy Pearse Doherty, discussing the challenges facing their communities and the opportunities this local election brings.
Speaking to the packed room Ms Masterson said “we are a community that has been entirely forgotten and abandoned by successive Governments. We desperately need representatives that will listen and do right by us.
“Young are fleeing our towns and villages in their droves, not because they want to but because they have been made to feel there is no future for them here. Parents who have worked hard their whole lives to provide a future for their children are now seeing their adult children forced to choose between emigrating or moving back to their childhood bedroom.
“So many people of my generation have been forced to delay life plans like marriage and starting a family as they put everything they have into rent, saving for a deposit for a house, or ever rising mortgages.”
Ms Masterson said the people of Tullamore have a strong Sinn Féin team to vote for: “I am proud to be running alongside Tim Farrell in Tullamore LEA. We will work together to stand up for our communities on the issues that matter. This election is an opportunity to deliver the change that is needed. The message is clear, change starts here and change starts now.”
