They may not share a similar political ideology but an independent councillor in Offaly has been inspired by a political giant from the past in the run up to this June's local elections.
Tullamore's Cllr Sean O'Brien has adopted an Oliver J. Flanagan style to canvassing as the above photographs by Michael McGrath show.
The Fine Gael great famously travelled the highways and byways of Offaly in the mid decades of the last century on a bicycle with the phrases 'Here comes Oliver J.” and “There goes Oliver J.' emblazoned on the front and rear of his mode of transport.
Now in this environmentally conscious era Cllr O'Brien has also taken to his trusty bicycle with two slogans inspired by the late Oliver J.
But that's as far as it goes politically as the decidedly left-of-centre councillor wouldn't share many of the late Mountmellick based TD's right-wing views.
Cllr O'Brien has been spotted on his bike around many areas of Tullamore town in recent weeks and no doubt he will be visiting all parts of the Tullamore Municipal District area in the lead up to polling day on June 7.
