Tullamore District Court

A man charged with stealing charity buckets, alcohol and cosmetics, from various premises in Tullamore appeared at last week's sitting of the district court.

On December 12, 2023, Keith Kilroy (51), with addresses at Clonroosk, Portlaoise and Room 3, Simon Community, Clontarf Road, Tullamore, entered Leavy's Centra, Henry Street, Tullamore, and stole four buckets containing around €400 in charitable donations.

On July 27 2023, Mr Kilroy went into Subway, Harbour Street, Tullamore and committed the theft of a till drawer containing €300 cash. On June 4 2023, he stole vodka worth €23.99 the property of Lidl Main Street, Tullamore. On June 5, 2023 he stole vodka worth €41.42 also from Lidl Main Street. On July 22 2023, at Boots Church Street, he stole cosmetics and perfume to the value €109 99. He also stole vodka from Dolan's on Clara road on various dates. On October 29, 2023 he stole two bottles of vodka worth €71.98 the property of Spar, Tullamore.

On a previous court date David Nugent BL, said his client wanted to go to Cuan Mhuire and if he had to go to prison then he would lose his accommodation with the Simon Community, and his methadone programme.

At last week's sitting Mr Nugent said that his client had contacted Cuan Mhuire but because he is on a methadone programme they won't accept him. He has to be clear, he said.

He asked Judge Andrew Cody to adjourn the case to January 24 to allow him to find a treatment centre. In addition he asked if there could be a change in his bail conditions to allow his client to attend AA meetings which take place at 9pm in the evenings.

Judge Cody gave permission for the curfew hours to be changed to allow Mr Kilroy to attend AA meetings on Tuesdays and Fridays of each week.

The judge remanded Mr Kilroy on bail to appear on January 24, 2024. He said he wanted to see that Mr Kilroy has a place for treatment.
