The Summer Stars programme has returned to libraries in Offaly
Summer Stars has returned to Offaly libraries.
The Summer Stars Reading Programme encourages children to keep reading for fun over the summer.
To help children keep track of their reading and stay motivated, they can collect a Summer Stars reading card at their local library branch. Library staff will encourage them over the summer months and they will receive some Summer Stars items such as pencils and pencil cases as they read, along with a certificate of completion and a medal once they reach their reading goal!
Offaly Libraries will run Summer Stars story times, a book review competition, and craft sessions over the summer, and we encourage families to drop in and check out the wonderful resources we have to offer. Summer Stars is a national Right To Read initiative.
Top tips to help kids enjoy reading this summer:
Encourage children to choose stories they are likely to enjoy
Keep stories appropriate to your child’s reading level – if it’s too hard or too easy they may lose confidence or interest
Comic books and graphic novels are a great option for reluctant or unenthusiastic readers
Audiobooks may suit children who find reading challenging
Encourage your children along their reading journey
Focus on the fun of reading and set a good example by reading yourself!
