At the recent Leinster Athletics Star Awards, a very dedicated Offaly athletics worker was recognised for her outstanding contribution to athletics.

Mary Daly joined Tullamore Harriers A.C. in 2004 following a successful career as a triathlete.

She quickly integrated into the Tullamore Harriers Club, becoming a valuable member of a successful women’s team at that time. Mary competed across all disciplines, with cross country being her favourite. Mary secured podium spots at county, provincial and national championships over the years, still excelling at the marathon distance,in her age group.

Mary became ladies captain in 2011 and it was then that her true potential was revealed. The Cappincur woman has proven herself to be a tireless worker and volunteer for Tullamore Harriers.

Mary has served as Ladies Captain, Registrar and P.R.O , to name just a few. In recent years Mary has spearheaded the committee that oversees the annual Tullamore Harriers Half Marathon. Under her leadership this event has grown from strength to strength. Mary doesn’t limit her efforts to just Tullamore Harriers. Serving as senior competition secretary , with Offaly Athletics, she practically single handed, organises all of Offaly Athletic senior competition.

The Offaly Road Race Series is a major part of Mary’s work. In her “spare” time Mary also serves at provincial level, looking after the Athletics Leinster Facebook page. The expression “ if you want something done, ask a busy person“ is very appropriate. Mary’s endless energy and infectious enthusiasm is something to behold.

Mary’s dedication to her sport is an example for all to follow.
