Tullamore Squash Club celebrates remarkable double award win

Members of Tullamore Squash Club were left pinching themselves when results were announced at the recent Squash Ireland Awards. In an extraordinary achievement, Tullamore was crowned both Leinster Club of the Year and overall Squash Ireland Club of the Year.

Club Captain Morgan O’Donnell accepted the awards on behalf of the club, saying the recognition reflects years of rebuilding, renewed energy in the club, and the incredible surge of activity on and off the courts. For the first time in many years, Tullamore proudly fielded three teams in the Leinster League — a clear sign of the club’s rapid growth and momentum.

But while competitive success is a huge boost, members agree that the club’s greatest strength is its community spirit. With three courts dating back to the 1970s, Tullamore Squash Club has been a sporting home for generations — and today, it’s buzzing more than ever. New members are joining, long time players are returning, and the courts are alive with activity seven days a week.

Club member Imelda Murray sums it up perfectly:
“Squash is fast, exciting and fantastic for fitness — but the social side here is just as good. Players of all ages and abilities are genuinely welcome. It’s a very inclusive club.”

And that inclusive energy shows in the weekly calendar:

• Saturday coaching for all levels

• 6 week blocks of Leinster League training

• Women’s training every Wednesday — ladies only

• Friday night Round Robin — mixed levels, great fun

• Junior coaching every Saturday, plus extra midweek sessions

• Three ladies’ HIIT programmes each year to get more women into squash

• Squash Blitz tournements (social night)

• All year round internal league

Tullamore is equally thriving on the competitive side:

• Tullamore A completed the double last year (league + cup), topped Division 2 this year and earned promotion to Division 1.

• Tullamore Women’s A tied for first place on points, narrowly missing the title on matches won, and also secured promotion to Division 1.

• Tullamore B finished mid table and were the club’s most consistent performers, with the same committed group showing up every week and making great progress throughout the season.

Morgan has been central to driving the club’s resurgence, running multiple 10 week junior programmes and the popular midweek ladies’ HIIT sessions, helping bring new faces into the sport and broadening its appeal locally.

With national recognition now under its belt and participation at an all time high, the future looks incredibly bright for Tullamore Squash Club.
“We’re delighted with the awards,” Morgan said, “but what matters most is keeping the club growing, welcoming new players and making sure squash in Tullamore thrives for years to come.”

Work is already underway to improve facilities both on and off the court — and if the past year is anything to go by, there are exciting times ahead.
