Steven Schumacher hailed Bolton’s quality but rued their lack of cutting edge after being held to a 1-1 draw by Blackpool.
The Trotters were looking to end a 48-year wait for a victory at Bloomfield Road – stretching back to March 1977 – but fell behind against the run of play through Teddy Sharman-Lowe’s unfortunate own goal.
Mason Burstow levelled in the 61st minute and Bolton thought they had won it through Xavier Simons, but his late effort was disallowed due to an offside player who was in the eyeline of Blackpool goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell.
“It’s crazy and that first 15 minutes sums it up,” Schumacher said.
“We were in complete control of the game and had loads of shots on their goal, their keeper makes some good saves, we have had a couple of set-pieces go close but then from their first attack the lad spins George (Johnston) and his shot is a tame one, takes a deflection, hits the post and then bounces off the goalie. Without a shot on target they are 1-0 up.
“That is how it is going for us at the minute. Our quality at times is excellent, but we need to find that final bit.
“We just need better decision-making at times. We also have to hit the target a little bit more. We sometimes do everything, but score.
“It isn’t a lack of trying, in fact I know it isn’t. We work on these things all the time. We can’t keep dominating the games like we are and not pick up points, it just won’t happen.”
Blackpool boss Steve Bruce believes Bolton’s disallowed goal was the right call, and was happy with his side’s defensive qualities.
“We had a glorious chance towards the end, but it was two really good teams who are finding their way and who will eventually be there or thereabouts,” Bruce said.
“We found it difficult the first 15 minutes, but it was a great goal from Dale (Taylor) which will do him the world of good. We have been working a lot with him in training about getting that match sharpness into him.
“Defensively I thought we looked a lot, lot more assured than we have been, especially second half. But their goal sums it up – Olly Casey gets a block on it and it bounced through to their guy right in front of goal. When you are up against it these things happen.
“I do think the linesman got it right with their disallowed goal at the end. We had one at Mansfield a few weeks ago and we do believe he was in an offside position, but then I would say that wouldn’t I?”
