Chesterfield picked up their first away win since December as they comfortably saw off 10-man Salford 4-0.
Hakeeb Adelakun’s straight red card proved to be the pivotal moment of the game and Chesterfield capitalised with Liam Mandeville and Aribim Pepple netting shortly before the break, before Armando Dobra and Mandeville added further second-half goals.
Salford were in the ascendancy leading up to the sending-off, with Ryan Boot denying efforts from Francis Okoronkwo and Kelly N’Mai but Adelakun received his marching orders soon after, following an off-the-ball altercation that left Jack Sparkes holding his face.
Chesterfield made the most of their man advantage and took a 40th-minute lead when Mandeville got on the end of Sparkes’ cross, the forward ending his 11-month goal drought, before Pepple added a second from close range three minutes later.
Dobra made it three on 59 minutes as the Albanian winger left both Tom Edwards and keeper Jamie Jones on the ground to fire into the top corner.
Mandeville added his second deep into stoppage time as he fired home from substitute Michael Olakigbe’s squared ball.
