Tullamore were crowned Midland League champions after a dramatic 22–20 victory over Longford in a thrilling final played in Longford, decided by a last-gasp penalty.

The game began with real intent from both sides, with Longford striking first. Tullamore were penalised for collapsing a scrum, allowing the hosts to open the scoring with an early three points. Longford, clearly up for the contest, continued to apply pressure and were rewarded with the first try of the game, finished well by their industrious open-side flanker.

Tullamore responded positively and began to dominate territory and possession. They created several clear scoring chances but were left frustrated by loose passes, turnovers in contact, and being held up over the line. Eventually, sustained pressure earned a penalty, and Tullamore opted for the corner. A series of pick-and-go carries followed, before Mark Kennedy shrugged off a defender and danced his way over the line to bring the game back to 3 points. Conor Dunne added the conversion.

Longford struck back soon after with a moment of individual brilliance from their inside centre, slicing through the defence to extend their lead. However, Tullamore finished the half strongly. Another spell of pressure close to the line resulted in Matthew Murphy powering over from close range following a pick-and-go effort. At half-time, Longford held a narrow 17–14 advantage.

The second half told a different story. Tullamore controlled the game, enjoying the lion’s share of possession and territory, patiently probing a resilient Longford defence. The breakthrough came in opportunistic fashion. As Longford attempted to exit from halfway, Dunne read the play superbly, intercepting a pass before showing a clean pair of heels to race into the corner and give Tullamore the lead.

The drama was far from over. In the dying minutes, Longford were awarded a penalty which they converted to edge back in front, seemingly snatching victory at the death. However, Tullamore showed composure and worked their way back into Longford territory and earning a final penalty.

Conor Dunne stepped up and showed nerves of steel, slotting the winning kick to seal a memorable 22–20 victory and the Midland League title.
