TULLAMORE GOLF CLUB

MEN'S

SN Mahon PGA Tankard sponsored by Hoey & Denning Solicitors
This weekend we held one of our flagship strokeplay events of the year and we are again grateful to our long standing sponsors Hoey and Denning for their continuing support.
Conditions were wet on Saturday morning but Adam Martin made the game look easy with a superb round of 69 gross (63 net). He recorded 5 birdies and it is fair to say that if conditions were a little more favourable, he could have gone even lower. It is fantastic to see one of our young golfers deliver a performance like this and we offer huge congratulations to Adam.
Another very promising young golfer Jack Smith took the gross prize with a fantastic round of 68, well played Jack!
Other winners:
Cat 1: Larry Larkin 67, Ray O’Hagan 68
Cat 2: Brian Clear 66 (B9), Dennis Watts 66
Cat 3: John Fenlon 67 (B9), Matthew Condron 67
Cat 4: Brian Geraghty 66 (B9), Kieran Glynn 66.
Team Golf
It was a mixed weekend for our teams. Starting with the good news, our Barton Shield team won their first round against Mountrath by 3 holes. This was a great win and earns the team a second round clash with Millicent, winners of the Leinster Central section in 2024.
On Saturday, our Mixed Foursomes team had a brilliant 3-1 victory over Portarlington.
Unfortunately our Barton Cup team went down by the absolute narrowest of margins to Cill Dara with the top match at home going to the 19th.
Finally, our JB Carr team was on the wrong end of a 1-4 scoreline against Greystones.
Well done to all players that represented our club over the weekend and we wish every success and luck to those teams that are still fighting for honours.

LADIES

Competition
This week’s ladies' golf competition was an 18 Hole Stableford generously sponsored by Corcoran Hearing Tullamore.  We began under slightly overcast skies, creating cool and comfortable playing conditions. Fortunately, there was no rain throughout the day, and the weather gradually improved with frequent sunny spells, adding a touch of brightness to the event.  A great day for golf, with a pleasant mix of clouds and sunshine!  Josephine Hickey (34.3) delivered an impressive round scoring 42 points to secure victory.  The winner of Category 3 was Mary Minnock (44.3) with an excellent round of 41 points whilst Grace Anne Finnegan(29.3) was runner-up with 39 points.  Stephanie McNiff (10.2) clinched the top spot in Category 1 with 40 points while Gemma Butler (12.9) was second with 37 points. Susan Troy (25.3) secured Category 2 with 38 points on a countback from Helen Wilson (27.7).  The 9 Hole Qualifier winner was Evelyn McCann (39.4) with 19 points on countback from Anna Ryan (38.6).
The monthly Senior Women/Autumn Belles competition – Rain can’t stop the swing!  Despite the damp conditions our senior women golfers showed resilient and good humour in this month’s 3-ball Scramble on Thursday.  With light showers peppering the course through the morning, players were challenged not just by the layout but by the skies above!  A big congratulations to Helen Lee, Mary Minnock and Maria Molyneaux  who claimed top honours with a steady round and excellent course management.  Runners-up Theresa Kelly, Katherine Buckley and Mary Egan were close behind. And in third place were Frances O’Donohue, Olive Walsh and Monica Lee.  Thanks to all the ladies who took part and made the day enjoyable despite the drizzle.  It’s always a pleasure to see such determination, laughter and cheerful spirit shine through the showers.  Next month’s competition is scheduled for Thursday 17th July at 9:30 – here’s hoping for dry fairways and blue skies!

Hard luck to the Senior Foursomes team and to the Mixed Fourball team who lost their matches at the weekend. We wish the best of luck to the Ladies Leinster Trophy team who meet Co Longford golf club and to the Junior Cup team who play Tullamore on Sunday 22nd.

MEN'S

Results
Open Stableford 15/06/2025: 1st Kevin Allen (21) 43pts, 2nd Pat Doyle (19) 42pts, Gross: Jamal Sabir (+3) 37pts, 3rd Gareth Cassidy (10) 41pts, Ladies: Sinead Power (26) 40pts, Front 9: Dwayne Farrell (21) 23pts, Back 9: Paul Lyons (20) 22pts.
JM Thursday Open Stableford 12/06/2025: 1st Joseph Hurley (10) 36pts.

Anniversary
As this is our major fundraiser for the year the predicted bad weather meant we had to make an early call and push this celebration back to 16-20 July. All such decisions are taken with presenting the course in the best possible condition to the maximum of members and visitors possible and we hope everyone understands this. The BRS is now open again for re-booking for a 2 Person Scramble (16th July), Open Singles Stableford (17th), 4 Person Scramble with shotgun start (call shop) (18th) and the 4 Person Team Classic (19th & 20th).

Competitions
Next weekend we have Martin Ryans Vice Captains Prize while the JM Thursday Open qualifiers continue on June 19th (see below for further details). The fortnightly 13 hole competition runs to 22nd June and can be played any day, it is important to note your correct hc on the card when playing - whether it be off yellow or white tees.

JM Thursday Open
The qualifying table has been updated and will be on the website shortly. Not many changes this week as Joseph Hurley stays top on 119pts, with James Cafferty & Joe Creggy next on 116pts. Leading lady Eleanor Dillon is 21st on 106pts and the best of the many visitors is still Roscommon’s Michael Armshaw who is in 28th on 103pts. We now have 217 points scorers and have had visitors from 27 clubs.
Course Corner
We have a practice area which must be used rather than having 5 or 6 shots from say the 150 mark on any hole. Anyone found doing this will be in for some disciplinary action from the committee. The greens are in great shape so please remember to fix all your pitchmarks and fill your divots. Remember to bring the bags back to the stand please. Unfortunately a lot of golfers in Moate are still failing to rake bunkers and this causes problems for those playing behind.

Interclub
On Saturday the Mens Barton Cup team kept the flag flying with an excellent victory over Abbeyleix and the Barton Shield men beat Edenderry while the Central Towns team went down fighting to Mullingar. The Mixed Fourball failed to progress on Sunday v Naas and we also lost to Tullamore in the Leinster Senior Foursomes.
We have plenty of team action again next Sunday as the men face Glasson in the Michael Moore Cup and the ladies have the Leinster Womens Trophy v Longford and the Junior Cup v Tullamore. Best of luck to all involved. If you are not too busy on Sunday afternoon you could do worse than pop down and give them a bit of support.
