DRUMCULLEN & Eglish parishes form a close knit agricultural community, rich in the history of Gaelic Games, with hurling to the forefront since the late nineteenth Ccentury and camogie prominent since the 1930’s.

However, until recent years Traditional Irish music and culture have remained under nurtured in the community and it was only those with an innate passion that sought fulfilment from further afield. On August 28th 2019 a group of Trad enthusiasts gathered together in Rath Hall and a new branch of Comhaltas, CCÉ Craobh Chuilinn- Rath was formed, opening its doors to the young people of the community and beyond and offering a safe and welcoming environment for them to learn, practice and showcase their talents.

Since then CCÉ Craobh Chuilinn has grown from strength to strength and currently boasts a membership of over 170 people, and has achieved tremendous success at Offaly, Leinster and All Ireland level.

Weekly classes are provided in Tin Whistle, Concertina, Fiddle, Flute, Button Accordion, Banjo, Mandolin, Piano/Keyboard, Traditional Singing, Sean Nós Dancing and Comhra Gaeilge. Classes in Beginner Bodhrán, Guitar and Ceilí Band Drums are also on offer.

A limited number of musical instruments are available for rental on a first-come, first-served basis.

Quality tuition is provided by very accomplished and innovative young tutors. Students are organised in small groups to ensure that all members receive individual attention and are assisted with preparation for SCT (music exams), Community Games, concerts, Grupaí Cheoil, Ceilí Band, performances etc. Seasonal sessions are held throughout the year to foster, encourage and create a love for our traditional Irish Culture.

If you are interested in growing in confidence and enriching your lives with music, song and dance please come along to their branch registration for the 2024/2025 season which will take place in Rath Hall this Friday August 30th from 5.30pm to 6.30pm, where you can meet the tutors and enrol in classes for the coming year.

The branch’s end of year celebration and presentation of SCT certificates will take place in Rath Hall on Friday September 6th at 6.30pm. All are welcome!
