Ashbi Baby, recipient of the NHI Care Award 2024,
Esker Ri Nursing Home in Offaly was in the spotlight at the prestigious NHI Care Awards 2024, held on November 19th in the historic Round Room at the Mansion House, Dublin. The event, in association with Homecare Medical, celebrated the exceptional dedication and care provided by nursing home staff across Ireland.
A highlight of the night was the recognition of Ashbi Baby, Senior Healthcare Assistant at Esker Ri Nursing Home, who received one of the prestigious awards. Ashbi’s remarkable contributions to nursing home care - rooted in dedication, compassion, and excellence - have had a profound impact on the lives of residents, staff, and the wider community at Esker Ri.
With a General Election just around the corner, the event was graced by the presence of Minister for Finance, Jack Chambers, who served as the guest of honour. Minister Chambers took to the stage to present one of the awards and shared heartfelt reflections on the critical role nursing home staff play in communities like Offaly. He expressed gratitude to the audience for their unwavering commitment to the well-being and dignity of older people and acknowledged the unique challenges faced by nursing homes.
Originally from Kerala, India, Ashbi began her nursing career in 2006 and has spent over 12 years building a reputation for skill, warmth, and dedication. Her commitment to excellence was evident early on, earning her the Best Student Award during her training. Driven by a passion for growth, she moved to the Middle East, where she received a Special Honour Award for her exceptional service.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Ashbi’s bravery and compassion were on full display as she served as an emergency department nurse, putting her patients’ needs before her own safety. Her outstanding efforts earned her the prestigious Frontline Hero Award in 2021.
Since joining Esker Ri in 2022, Ashbi has become an integral part of the team. Her calm and friendly demeanour, paired with her ability to build meaningful connections with residents, has made her deeply trusted and admired. Her attentive, person-centred care earned her the Employee of the Month award in August 2024, a testament to her lasting impact on colleagues and residents alike.
Outside of work, Ashbi is a devoted mother of three and a loving wife, balancing her career and family with grace. She brings the same kindness and reliability to her role at Esker Ri, where her years of experience and gentle nature enrich the lives of residents and inspire her team daily.
Commenting on the night, Tadhg Daly, CEO of Nursing Homes Ireland, said: “The NHI Care Awards celebrate the extraordinary dedication and commitment of nursing home staff like Ashbi Baby.
