Five arrested following Garda chase after car failed to stop and smashed into two vehicles

Five men were after a car failed to stop for gardaí before crashing into two vehicles and sparking a major pursuit in Dublin.

In a statement, gardaí said: "At around 1:40pm on Thursday 2nd April 2026, a car with five occupants failed to stop for Gardaí in the Knocklyon area of Dublin 16."

"The car was subsequently involved in a collision with two cars driven by members of the public at Grange Road, Rathfarnham."

Gardaí confirmed that "the five occupants of the car fled on foot and were pursued by Gardaí, with the assistance of the Garda Air Support Unit."

It was later established that "the occupants of the car were suspected of involvement in a burglary in Walkinstown, Dublin 12 a short time earlier."

"Five males were subsequently detained at Garda stations in the Dublin Metropolitan Region."

Gardaí said: "Two (one in his 50s and the other a juvenile teenager) were arrested under the Theft and Fraud Offences Act and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984."

"The juvenile has since been released pending further investigations."

"A third male (20s) was arrested on foot of a bench warrant."

"Two others (aged in their 20s) were detained for the purposes of a search under the Misuse of Drugs Act and subsequently released without charge."

Gardaí also confirmed that "all three occupants of the two cars driven by the members of the public were brought to Tallaght Hospital for assessment."

Investigations are ongoing, they confirmed.
