Man hospitalised after being struck by vehicle following 'altercation' on busy road

Gardai from Roxboro Road station in Limerick city are investigating

An investigation is underway after a man was struck by a vehicle in Limerick city following an altercation between a number of individuals in broad daylight.

Gardai at Roxboro Road in the city are appealing for witnesses to what they have described as a "public order and reckless endangerment incident" that occurred at Hyde Road.

A garda spokesperson said the incident occurred at around 5.15pm on Tuesday and involved an altercation between a number of individuals on Hyde Road, close to the city centre.

"Following this altercation, a man was struck by a vehicle on Hyde Road, which failed to remain at the scene. This man presented to University Hospital Limerick to be treated for injuries believed to be non-life threatening. No other injuries have been reported," said the garda spokesperson.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward, especially those who were present in the Hyde Road area between 5pm and 5.30pm and observed a Grey Nissan Qashqai in the vicinity. Many commuters travel this route on their return home after work in the city centre.

"Additionally, road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to gardaí."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Roxboro Road garda station on 061 214340, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
