Cyclist seriously injured in Portumna crash

The accident happened at Powers Cross, Ballyshrule near Portumna

A male cyclist is in a serious condition after being struck by a car near Portumna on Monday morning.

The incident took place at approximately 6.15am on Monday January 31, at Powers Cross, Ballyshrule, Portumna in Co. Galway.

The cyclist, a man in his 50s, was rushed to University Hospital Galway to be treated for what Gardaí described as “serious injuries”.

The road was closed as Forensic Collision Investigators conducted a technical examination of the scene but has since reopened.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information relevant to their investigation into the crash to come forward and are also appealing to any road users with video footage from the location between 6.00am and 6.30am to make it available to them.
