A busy junction in the centre of Roscrea town has been described as a "free for all" by a local Councillor, who is calling for a trial run of traffic safety measures.

Rosemary Square in Roscrea town centre is built around the Fancy Fountain and is the point where six roads converge in a double staggered junction and causes much confusion for visiting motorists unfamiliar with the heritage town.

A local Councillor described entering the junction as a game of "Russian roulette" for motorists and pedestrians and told the April monthly meeting of the Municipal Council for the Roscrea are on Monday (April 20) the junction becomes a "free for all" in times of heavy traffic.

"Something needs to be done on a trial basis," Councillor Shane Lee (Ind Lowry Team) said, adding he "understands it is a massive undertaking, but it is one of the worst junctions in the District."

"Entering the junction from beside Douglas' shop towards the town centre is very dangerous," he said.
