BIG improvements are on the way for Birr Playground, a facility which is immensely popular with the general public.
As part of these works, surface repairs will be carried out. New fencing will also be installed around the playground area and the timber fence removed.
Repairs will be made to equipment which has been identified as needing attention; and the railings and gates will be painted. The main gate will also be repaired. Many exciting new pieces of equipment will replace older and damaged equipment.
A new wheelchair carousel will replace the existing roundabout, allowing individuals using wheelchairs to participate in fun activities alongside their peers promoting inclusion and social interaction. An inclusive seat will replace the broken swing basket. This seat is designed to accommodate individuals with diverse needs and abilities. 5 pieces of sensory equipment will also be added to the playground.
Cllr Audrey Hennessy Kennedy welcomed this work, which will make the playground “safe and inclusive for all.” She added that all of the work will be carried out over the next few weeks, and she thanked to the Area Engineer for working on the project.
