AILTIRI Architects have been appointed as consultants to prepare the tender documentation for the demolition of the existing Toilet Block and the construction of the new Facilities Centre for Watersports Activities in Dromineer.
The recent meeting of Nenagh MD was told that the demolition of the existing Toilet Block should happen in the near future.
“Progress meetings are taking place on an ongoing basis with Fáilte Ireland who are funding the project,” Rosemary Joyce, Senior Executive Officer, told the meeting. “Part VIII planning documentation for the inclusion of the Changing Places Standard Facility as part of the overall development in Dromineer is currently being compiled. The Tender package for the appointment of a contractor for the construction of the new facility is currently under review by Tipperary County Council prior to advertising on E-tenders.”
The new facility centre for water sports activities was first announced two years ago, in Autumn 2022. The proposed single-storey 12 x 5m centre will have a green roof. Associated site works including access ramps and service connections are included in the plan.
The centre is to provide hot shower, changing and toilet facilities along with secure storage, induction spaces, equipment washdown and orientation points. It is to cater for the significant increase in people enjoying outdoor water-based activities such as kayaking, paddle-boarding and open water swimming.
Liam Brett, Director of Services, told the meeting that “a huge amount of work is going into this and other projects. We are hoping for big advances in the Dromineer project over the coming months.”
Councillor Louise Morgan Walsh pointed out that the toilet block in Dromineer had been vandalised.
“There is a great sauna beside the waterside," she added, "and more and more people during the winter are using the sauna and swimming in the lake.”
