THE members of Slieve Bloom Association congratulated Cllr Seamus McDonald on being re-elected to Laois County Council during their monthly meeting in Kinnitty Community Centre on Thursday evening, June 20th.
Cllr McDonald has been a member of the Association for many years.
The Rosenallis based veteran Fianna Fáil councillor was first elected to Laois County Council 39 years ago.
He took the last of the six seats in the Borris-in-Ossory / Mountmellick Municipal District in the 10th count, without reaching the quota, with 1,460 votes.
"I’m delighted to be re-elected," commented the Councillor in the Count Centre. "I did well with 1,055 first preference votes. This is my ninth election. I was first elected in 1985 and I’ve been elected in every election since. I’m really looking forward to the next five years of working on behalf of the people. It’s a busy job. You never get a minute, but I do enjoy it.”
The meeting also discussed its forthcoming Ard Erin / Lughnasa Festival. This will be held on Sunday July 28th. Everyone will meet in Camross at 1.30pm.
The walk will approach Ard Erin from Glen Kitt and will be led by Seán and Shane Dowling, the nephew and grand-nephew, respectively, of the late Michael Dowling. Michael was a member of SBA for many years and led the walk up Ard Erin each year.
