Met Éireann weather forecast for Ireland for the coming week

High pressure will build towards next weekend but it's not all good news on the weather front for Ireland

Met Éireann has issued its weekly weather forecast for Ireland right through until next weekend and they have made two big predictions.

While high pressure will build, we must wait until next weekend to see the effects of it, and even then, it may not have the impact on temperatures many would expect.

Between now and then, our weather will remain rather unsettled with rain and drizzle affecting many areas. Donegal was under a Status Yellow rain warning which warned of potential flooding on Sunday while other areas also felt the impact of the wet weather.

Met Éireann forecasters say Monday will be also be "damp and mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle and patchy mist and hill fog. Longer drier intervals developing this afternoon and evening, with perhaps a few limited bright spells. Highest temperatures of 13 to 15 degrees with light to moderate westerly breezes.

"Mostly cloudy and misty tonight [Monday] with patchy light rain and drizzle. Some clearer breaks in the west will spread eastwards overnight. Lowest temperatures of 5 and 10 degrees. Light, occasionally moderate, westerly breezes will fall light and variable by dawn allowing fog patches to thicken."

For Tuesday, they add: "Mist and fog patches will gradually clear through the morning to leave a dry day for many with a mix of cloud and bright spells and just the odd spot of light rain or drizzle. In the west and northwest, however, patchy rain and drizzle will move in from the Atlantic through the late afternoon and evening. Highest temperatures of 13 to 15 degrees in light westerly breezes.

"Mostly dry overnight with some clear spells, especially in the southeast [on Tuesday night]. Some rain and drizzle too, especially for Atlantic areas later. Lowest temperatures generally of 7 to 11 degrees in light, occasionally moderate, southwest breezes with mist and fog patches developing again.

"Mist and fog will clear through the morning [on Wednesday] to leave another largely dry albeit mostly cloudy day with just a little light rain and drizzle. Highest temperatures of 14 to 16 or 17 degrees in light southwesterly or variable breezes," the forecast continues.

"Continuing mostly dry and cloudy [on Wednesday night]. Temperatures falling to between 9 and 12 degrees in light southwesterly or variable breezes, more moderate near northern coasts. Mist and fog patches will develop.

"Staying mostly dry with a little more in the way of sunny breaks developing [on Thursday]. Still some patchy light rain and drizzle at times. Highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees with mostly light southwesterly winds, more moderate near northern and western coasts.

"Mostly dry with some sunny spells [on Friday]. During the evening a band of light rain will begin to push in from the northwest. Highest temperatures of 13 to 15 degrees in light to moderate southwesterly winds, fresher near northern and western coasts."

Met Éireann's latest forecast for next weekend concludes: "Current indications suggest that largely dry and rather cloudy conditions will persist through the weekend with temperatures generally reaching between 12 and 15 degrees."
