THE annual GOAL Mile took place in Birr on Christmas Day raising much needed funds for those in need across the world.

GOAL is an international humanitarian response agency established in Ireland over 40 years ago. The GOAL Mile has seen tens of thousands of people run or walk a mile to raise funds for GOAL at Christmas, bringing people together in their communities to support GOAL’s humanitarian work in 14 countries across Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and Ukraine. Every day, more than 3,000 GOAL staff work to improve the lives of those affected by conflict and natural disaster.

This was the 17th Mile in Birr and, as always, the people of Birr turned out in their hundreds and dug deep raising in excess of €3,200 to support those who need it most. GOAL Mile Birr organiser, Emma Nee Haslam, thanked those who gave so generously and the volunteers who helped out on the day. It is not too late to support this worthy cause with donations coming in online through the 'GOAL Mile Birr' Instagram page.
