THE Alzheimer Society of Ireland (The ASI) officially opened its new Dementia-Specific Day Centre in the Health Care Centre, Convent Road, Borrisokane, on Friday last.

The centre will allow The ASI to provide care and support to people living with dementia and their families in the region each Friday.

The centre follows recent successful openings in Westmeath, Kildare, Dungarvan, Wexford, Cavan, and Cork and marks the 50th ASI centre in Ireland. The centre will offer various activities to promote cognitive stimulation, social engagement, and physical activity.

The centre's opening was attended by members of The ASI, local dignitaries, supporters, and community members. The opening ceremony included a plaque unveiling and a tour of the new facility.

Head of Operations at The ASI, Siobhan O’Connor, said: "I am delighted to open this centre in Borrisokane. This marks the 50th Centre that we have opened across the country and will allow us to continue to provide top-quality dementia-specific supports and services to people living with dementia and their families in Tipperary.

“I’d like to thank the local North Tipperary branch in Nenagh for their years of fundraising and lobbying for this centre, and the HSE for kindly providing this space to us and, most importantly, our service users."

An estimated 2,457 people live with dementia in Tipperary, and more than 11,000 people develop the disease annually – at least 30 people daily.

The new Daycare Centre is at the Health Care Centre, Convent Road, Borrisokane, Co. Tipperary, E45 C440. For more information about the centre, please contact Helena Hanrahan on (087) 660 1251.
