The suggestions would sound better located in Eastenders he said
The members of the Municipal Council for the Roscrea area were called on to select a name for a new housing development in Roscrea on Monday - but instead decided to invite local school children to submit their ideas.
46 new houses will be constructed in Glencarrick in Roscrea - a project local representatives have worked collectively on to ease the housing burden in the heritage town.
Traditionally the architect or developer choses the name given to the estate, which can often play a role in defining the identity of an area. However, when the elected members were presented with a list of three suggestions put forward by the architect to select from, Councillor Michael Smith suggested opening up the process to the students of the nearby Corville National School.
Monaincha Park, Dun Cré and Rosemary Gardens were the three suggestions - the latter which Cllr. Smith described as “like something from Eastenders”.
“46 new houses is a big deal for Roscrea and the children who might one day live in those houses should play a part in choosing the name”, Councillor Smith said.
The proposal was backed by Cllrs. Shane Lee and Noel Coonan.
