Local community group enjoy outing at Limerick Races

THE festive period is a time for meeting those we may not have seen for some time and it is traditionally a time for giving and supporting various causes.

The community of Moneygall combined all of these aspects by hosting a community fundraiser by gathering in Limerick Racecourse on the last day of the festive festival in Greenmount Park.

Over 80 people sat and enjoyed a three-course meal, while having a spectacular view of the racecourse from the Panoramic Suite. The day was filled with laughter and cheers especially when one of their guests, whose horse was running in Leopardstown, was first past the post as they all enjoyed the racing from there too on numerous TVs around the suite. With the joys of winning many others weren't so lucky, but everyone seems to have enjoyed a different and unique day out with friends and community.

Chairperson of Moneygall Community Cafe Jeanette Healy stated "The event was a fundraiser, but it means much more to our committee than the funds raised. Our Cafe as a social enterprise will ensure we can continue to meet as a community, and enjoy each other’s company while supporting local producers and embracing the volunteer spirit so evident in our community. We appreciate the huge financial support from the event and look forward to opening the Café in Spring"

The well attended event didn't conclude at Limerick as the group returned back to Moneygall where they enjoyed music, food and dancing into the night in Ollie's Bar. Moneygall Community Cafe expresses gratitude to everyone who made this event possible and most of all a huge success.

Thank you to all who purchased tickets for the event, especially to Ballyskenach Athletic Club and to all who purchased horses, donated raffle and auction items and to those who purchased lines and some very unique auction prizes. The work it took to organise this event is also acknowledged and those in attendance appreciated the enjoyable day and night and commend the volunteers of Moneygall Community Cafe and they look forward to the next outing!
