A successful first-time local elections candidate in Offaly has put her phenomenal success in the Edenderry area down to her "emphasis on canvassing" during the campaign.
Rhode native, Claire Murray, a Fianna Fail first-time candidate, romped home with 1,134 first preferences and was elected on the second count on Sunday.
Cllr Murray, who lives at Clonmore outside Edenderry, said she put a huge emphasis on canvassing during the campaign.
"I canvassed down every lane and in every urban in the area I was allocated," she told Offaly Live following her election on Sunday.
Cllr Murray said the party allocated the Rhode, Croghan, Ballycommon, Kilclonfert and Daingean areas to her though she was allowed to a leaflet drop in Edenderry in the last week of the campaign.
She thanked all those who had canvassed with her and voted for her especially her campaign manager, Liam Carty.
Acknowledging it would take her time to find her feet, Cllr Murray said she was committed to healthcare and mental health issues.
