Sitting Councillor Shane Lee took the second seat in the Roscrea and Templemore electoral area

Roscrea sitting Councillors Michael Smith and Shane Lee were elected tonight on the first count after a gruelingly long day of counting at the Tipperary count centre in Thurles.

Only 229 votes separated Fianna Fáil's Michael Smith and Lowry Team member, Shane Lee in the race for pole position, with the two Roscrea men swopping the lead several times during the day.

Councillor Smith, who took first place tonight with 2,460 votes, also topped the poll in 2019 with 2,570 first preference votes.

Councillor Lee took the second seat with 2,231 votes and is expected to be followed tomorrow by fellow Lowry Team member Eddie Moran from Templemore when counting resumes in Thurles tomorrow morning.

It is anticipated Fine Gael's Willie Kennedy from Templetuohy will take the fourth and final seat.
