Former Offaly councillor endorses Sinn Fein's Aoife Masterson

Tullamore based Brendan Killeavy urges former supporters to give Masterson their first preference vote

Former Sinn Féin Councillor Brendan Killeavy has this week formally endorsed Aoife Masterson in the upcoming local elections to Offaly County Council and asked his supporters to give her their number one vote on Friday, June 7th.

Speaking earlier this week Mr Killeavy said: “I have been working with Aoife for some time now assisting and managing her campaign. Having got to know Aoife, I have no doubt that she will be powerful voice, and cause a much-needed stir, on Offaly County Council. She is a hardworking, energetic, and positive young woman who is fully committed to making things better for everyone in our community.

Reflecting on the lack of Sinn Féin Councillors on Offaly County Council Mr Killeavy said:

“In my opinion, Tullamore and the surrounding areas have been poorly represented over the last five years. There is a real lack of understanding and engagement from sitting Councillors and services have fallen off a cliff.

“The housing and cost of living crisis means many people are worse off now than they have ever been. When you add on top of that the difficulty people are having in accessing basic services like doctors and dentists its clear something needs to change.

Looking to the elections, Mr Killeavy said:

“I think change starts with having strong women like Aoife who will listen and engage and workday and night to deliver on the things that actually matter to our community.

“That’s why I’ve asked all my supporters to get behind Aoife and give her their number one vote on Friday, 7th June.

“Housing is a big problem for people around Tullamore.

“There seems to be plenty of private houses been built but unfortunately these are out of reach for many people with prices well over the €300, 000 mark.

“Its time now for Offaly County Council to draw down funding from central government and start building several affordable housing schemes around Tullamore and Clara.

“This will give low income families a chance of home ownership at an affordable price in the  Tullamore area.

“I believe Aoife will pursue this fully and deliver homes for people not investment funds.”
